Week 2 discussion
2). Identify a relationship of yours that has become closer over time. Describe the earliest stage of the relationship. Was it an I-It or an I-You relationship at the time? During that early stage of the relationship, what did you talk about? Were there topics of kinds of talk you avoided? Now, describe the current relationship. What do you now talk about? Can you identify differences over time in your own and the other person's shared fields of experience?
When I was younger my step brother and I never got along. Being the baby of the family, I was spoiled a lot and that didn't help our relationship at all. Initially, it was an I-it relationship where we would treat each other as carpool. I would only talk to my brother when I had to go to school because my school was on the way to his work. When he would drive me to school, we would not converse at all like a silent drive. Currently, we talk about all sorts of things. He comes home every other weekend to do laundry and we catch up on life. He would share stories about his work at a radio station and I would talk to him about how college is coming along. We also talk a lot about family things that have happened recently since he isn't very close to our relatives. Definitely, over time my brother became more eloquent and sophisticated with his speech due to his job experience. For myself, I see myself growing everyday but mainly in first year in college because of large responsibilities we have to take.
